Here are sources of help:

  • For general information or questions, call the emergency operations center at 828-771-6670. Do not call 911 about road conditions, trees down, power outages or cell phone outages.
  • To start the process for FEMA relief for property damage, go to disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-3362.
  • To report a missing loved one, call the nonemergency number (above), 211 or the Red Cross, 800-733-2767.
  • For the United Way’s clearinghouse of resources, call 211.
  • To volunteer, go to hendersoncountync.gov.

The county's donation drop-off site at 118 McAbee Court, Flat Rock, continues to accept donations. One item we do not need currently is diapers. Non-perishable food items are a major need, especially meal-type canned goods. We also are in need of cleaning supplies, tarps, plasticware, paper plates, cups, flashlights and batteries. We are not accepting perishable food or new/used clothing items at this time. This site is for donation drop offs only. Visit www.visithendersonvillenc.org/helene-relief for a full list of accepted items and donation information.

Debris pickup
Henderson County will provide free curbside storm debris pickup for all county residents on NCDOT, municipal and private roads. All storm debris that is pushed to the right of way of a property will be picked up for free. "We understand residents want to clear their properties of debris quickly. However, burning debris is not the safest method under the current conditions," communications chief Mike Morgan said. "We want to reduce the risk of accidental fires while our emergency responders continue to work."
