The Housing Assistance Corporation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for four new homes on Sylvan Boulevard, marking a new chapter post-Hurricane Helene for affordable housing in the community.
Distinguished guests included Reginald Speight, state director of USDA Rural Development; Under Secretary of USDA Rural Development Dr. Basil I. Gooden; Area USDA Director of Rural Development Jody Lovelace and U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards.
The groundbreaking ceremony comes as the region continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, which severely impacted communities across Henderson County and beyond.
“This disaster has affected every corner of our community, destroying entire neighborhoods," Edwards said. "I am proud to support the work of the Housing Assistance Corporation and the creation of more affordable housing options for our community that has endured so much.”
The project will create four single-family homes on land generously donated by Chuck and Denise Anderson, community members who recognized the critical need for workforce housing.
The Housing Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit focused on home repair and affordable workforce housing, remains committed to preserving and creating affordable housing for historically underserved populations in the region.
