Postal Service moves mail service closer to Bat Cave

Responding to demand from the Hickory Nut Gorge and pressure from local, state and federal officials, the U.S. Postal Service has opened a mobile post office at the Edneyvillle Post Office where Bat Cave residents can pick up and their mail.

After Helene damaged the Bat Cave post office last Sept. 27, residents had been forced to drive to the Dana post office to pick up mail and access other services.

“We’ve been working for quite some time to reopen the post office down here,” County Manager John Mitchell told residents who attended a called meeting of the Board of Commissioners Monday night at Bat Cave Baptist Church. “I want you to know we talk about it every single day. The only person I haven’t talked to is the president of the United States.”
