FLETCHER — Contintental Teves is looking to add up to 40 jobs paying an average of $41,000 a year at its Broadpointe Industrial Park brake-caliper assembly plant.
The Henderson County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday on a proposal to grant up to $1,115,025 in economic development incentives for the brake plant investment of up to $55 million. The board has scheduled a hearing for 5:30 p.m. on the request.
The expansion would create 19 to 40 jobs, the county said. The county would grant from $33,000 to $81,000 the first year of a seven-year period of incentive payments, depending on the size of the investment and jobs created. The incentives could range from $627,000 to $1.1 million, county officials said.
Continental, one of the largest automotive suppliers in the world, said last August it would hire 100 people at its manufacturing facility in Fletcher. The company announced a $30 million expansion plan at the plant in the summer of 2012. The company added a new production line to the manufacturing facility that builds combination calipers, which are a combination of a caliper and a parking brake. Combination calipers reduce the cost of the vehicle and reduce the weight of the vehicle, which improves gas mileage, the company said.
The Continental jobs increase is the second major expansion announced by a Fletcher factory in recent weeks. Borg Warner announced plans for a $24 million expansion adding 80 jobs at its Cane Creek Industrial Park facility. The Board of Commissioners approved incentives of up to $585,504 for that project.
