Walking trail at the Park at Flat Rock runs along King Creek.
The Village of Flat Rock will dedicate the perimeter trail at The Park at Flat Rock during a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
The event, on Earth Day 2014, will open with remarks by Mayor Bob Staton. Flat Rock Middle School students will help plant a tree to commemorate Earth Day and enhance the park's natural beauty. The Flat Rock Park Advisory Board will serve lemonade and cookies.
The perimeter trail, the first amenity to be developed in the park, is about three-quarters completed. Once finished, it will follow the outer boundary of the park and make a 1.5-mile loop through a variety of landscapes. The trail is now 1.3-mile because it avoids a part of the park under construction. The trail is made of an all-season walkable surface that begins and ends at the parking lot.
While there is currently no seating in the park, organizers encouraged people to bring blankets, folding chairs and a lunch to enjoy in the park.
Anyone wishing to donate to the park's reforestation project is welcome to contribute to the Village of Flat Rock through the Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation. The Park at Flat Rock is at 48 Highland Golf Drive. For more information, contact Flat Rock Village Administrator Judy Boleman at 828.697.8100.
