Bike club offers tips for women riders

Tracey Drews of Carmichael Training will present tips on bicycling for women riders Wednesday at REI in Biltmore Park.

The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club will kick off the spring riding season with an informational meeting at REI in Biltmore Park on Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.


Tracey Drews of Carmichael Training will be presenting women-specific cycling issues. The meeting will be of interest to female cyclists — novice and experienced riders alike — providing information about getting and staying in shape, staying safe, the importance of women-specific bike fit, ascending and descending, preparing for longer distance rides (50+ miles) and riding in groups. It is free and open to the public.
Other events scheduled during National Bike Month are:

 

  • Kidical Mass, a series of kid-distance bike rides, tentatively scheduled May 11 at the Botanical Gardens at UNCA, May 18 at Lake Louise in Weaverville, June 8 at Black Mountain Elementary School and June 15 at French Broad River Park.
  • The 11th Annual Fletcher Flyer, a fully supported ride with four distance options, on Sunday, June 1, at 8 a.m. The rides start and finish at Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard. Earth Fare will supply snacks at six rest stops and Moe's Original BBQ will serve barbecue (vegetarian options available) back at Oskar Blues with music by the Reems Creek Incident bluegrass band. Riders will also a Root Beer Float Shooter made with Oskar Blues root beer and Earth Fare ice cream.
