ETOWAH — Officers from five agencies teamed up on Thursday to nab a bank robbery suspect after a $13,000 heist at the First Citizens Bank at 6534 Brevard Road in Etowah.
The suspect entered the bank and robbed an undisclosed amount of money. He is described as a white male, between 5’8”-5’10” with short dark hair and a full beard. He was wearing a light colored T-shirt, ball cap and sunglasses.
He drove away in a mid to late model Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is a standard green color equipped with no doors and a black bimini top.
After a state Highway Patrol trooper spotted the Jeep at the Hooker Falls parking lot at DuPont State Forest investigators determined the identity of the robbery suspect. The Henderson County Sheriff's Department, Transylvania County Sheriff's Department, Highway Patrol and Hendersonville and Fletcher police joined forces to ascertain the suspect's whereabouts. They found him off U.S. 25. Arrested and charged with the bank robbery was Layton Allen Waters, 34, of Top of the Mountain Road in Hendersonville.
