The United Way of Henderson County is encouraging people to help local students get ready for school by packing a school bus with food donations for MANNA’s Packs for Kids and school supplies for Henderson County public school students. It's part of the first Day of Action, which kicks off Friday morning at Dietz Field at Hendersonville High School.
Donations will be collected on Friday, Aug. 19, at the opening gathering for the first annual Day of Action, a volunteer work day sponsored by Pardee/UNC Health Care. Volunteers will congregate on Friday morning at the HHS football stadium, where donations will be collected on a school bus. Needed school supplies and non-perishable food items are listed below.
• 1” and 2” 3-ring binders
• Marbled cover composition books
• Notebook paper
• Blue and black pens
• Highlighters
• USB drives
• Glue sticks
• Pencils
• Soup/Chili
• Canned pasta: Spaghetti O’s, ravioli, etc.
• Beans & franks
• Mac & cheese
• Canned items: vegetables, beans
• Rice
• Pasta
• Dinner mixes: Hamburger Helper
• Healthy snacks
• Cereal/granola bars
• Fruit/applesauce cups
• Jell-O or pudding cups
• Crackers: graham, animal, etc.
• Dried fruit pouches
• Individual-serving cereal
• Beverages: milk (shelf-stable UHT boxes), juice boxes (100% juice only)
These donation and the work that volunteers will complete at the schools that day will create positive change at each school and throughout our community. Last year, more than 385 United Ways in 49 states and 21 countries mobilized volunteers in their communities for a Day of Action.
