Edwards to take Senate oath on Tuesday

Chuck Edwards, newly appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to fill the 48th District state Senate seat upon Sen. Tom Apodaca’s retirement, will be sworn in to the office at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Historic Courthouse.

Henderson County Commission Chairman Tommy Thompson will be master of ceremonies. Chief District Court Judge Athena Brooks will administer the oath. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Community Room on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse. The public is invited.
“I am humbled to receive this honor, and I pledge to do all that I can possibly do in the remainder of the current term to prove myself worthy of the trust that has been placed in me,” Edwards, who won the Republican nomination for the seat in the March primary, said in a statement. “I want it known that I intend to serve each and every person in this district with equal resolve for positive outcomes regardless of political party affiliation or ideology.”
Edwards faces Democrat Norm Bossert in the Nov. 8 election.
