Publix has set a grand opening for its first store in Hendersonville.
The store, at 635 Greenville Highway, will open at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, the Florida-based Publix Super Markets, announced Wednesday.
Construction of the exterior has been completed for several weeks and work continues on a center turn lane into the shopping center, right turn lanes on White Street and Greenville Highway, a sidewalk along the old Food Lion property and other work.
One of the last permits the supermarket needs a flood plain, from state regulators and FEMA. "Last I heard they sent off for it on Friday," Daniel Heyman, a planner with the city's Department of Development Assistance, said Wednesday.
After failing to get a no-rise permit based on existing conditions, the contractor asked for a Letter of Map Revision, which allows development in floodplains where the applicant can show the development would not worsen flood conditions.
