Everyone who drives into Hendersonville on Labor Day weekend knows, or soon learns, that heavy congestion and thousands of pedestrians have jammed downtown.
For those that might not be prepared, the city has put up electronic signs for the first warning motorist about the festival traffic. Oh and, by the way, No Pets Allowed.
City officials and police personnel had been talking about the signs for some time and this year got them put in place, said City Manager John Connet.
"There's heavy traffic and heavy pedestrian traffic," he said. The signs are intended to warn motorists to "please slow down and be careful."
The county emergency management office had one or two and the others the city got from the NCDOT, Connet said. The signs are at the four major gateways to downtown: Five Points, Four Seasons Boulevard, Spartanburg Highway and U.S. 64.
