FLETCHER —Fletcher police have identified two suspects who they said fled from a police officer after trying to run over him with their car. The Fletcher officer fired his service weapon as a car drove toward him and hit him shortly before noon today, police said.
Authorities issued arrest warrants for Ryan Hoffman Vought, 29, of Arden,charging him with felonious assault with a deadly weapon on a governmental official, resisting a public officer and driving while license revoked. An additional warrant has been obtained for passenger Autumn Michelle James, 27, charging her with resisting a public officer. Both suspects are known to frequent the Buncombe County/Asheville area, police said.
The officer was investigating a report of an occupied, suspicious vehicle in the back portion of the Ingles parking lot on U.S. 25 in Fletcher at 11:50 a.m. when the incident occurred. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to drive off and attempted to and hit the officer with the car. The Fletcher officer fired his service weapon at the hood of suspect vehicle. The driver continued out of the parking lot onto Hendersonville Road and left the area. The officer received minor injuries and was treated and released from an area hospital. No other injuries or damage were reported.
Police described the suspect's car as a black/primer colored two-door Acura with a plastic bag covering the back window. The Henderson County and Buncombe County sheriff’s offices are assisting in the investigation. Fletcher police officials thanked members of the public who witnessed the event and provided information.
