Heavy rainfall caused some 20,000 gallons of untreated wastewater to spill out of a manhole off Pinehurst Drive in the Windsor Hills neighborhood off North Main Street on Sunday morning, the city of Hendersonville reported.
The city reported the discharge in accordance with a state law requiring all local governments, animal operations, industries and others who operate wastewater collection and handling systems to issue a news press release when a spill of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.The overflow from the sewer system entered Clear Creek, the city said. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources, was notified of the event on Monday and is reviewing the discharge.
