The Henderson County school system has expanded its feeding program with buses delivering lunches to feeding sites. Numerous restaurants are also feeding kids for free.
On Tuesday, schools began offering our grab-and-go meals for pickup at 12 school sites, and served approximately 500 meals. On Wednesday, when schools added the Meals On the Bus mobile feeding sites at its traditional summer route (six stops), the numbers jumped to more than 2,000 meals served. The school system added a second bus to the Meals On the Bus service, and two more feeding sites. Also starting today, a bus from Sugarloaf Elementary will be delivering meals to families in the North district on weekdays. Schools are also working closely with the Henderson County Education Foundation, which has compiled a list of area restaurants offering support to students and families while schools are closed.
