FLETCHER — A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a short section of Cane Creek Road south of Old Airport Road starting Monday, Aug. 17, to build a culvert.
Crews from NHM Construction will have up to 60 days complete the construction, which is located south of Mills Gap and Old Airport Road. The new culvert will improve drainage and reduce the possibility of flooding in the area.
A marked detour will direct traffic on Old Airport Road and Hendersonville Road (U.S. 25). Old Airport Road and Mills Gap Road will remain open for the duration of construction. The construction is part of a $9.8 million project to improve Old Airport Road. It is more than 60 percent complete and should be finished by March 2021.
