Parkway motorcycle crash kills 11-year-old passenger

An 11-year-old boy died when the motorcycle his father was driving swerved to avoid a vehicle that had stopped suddenly in front of him and collided with a pickup truck on the Blue Ridge Parkway at 11:45 a.m. Sunday near Blowing Rock.

Jason Kruk, of Taylorsville, was driving southbound on the parkway when his corrective action caused the motorcycle to enter the northbound traffic lane where it collided with a pickup truck. Kruk was transported by ground to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. His son, a passenger on the motorcycle, was airlifted to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The driver of the truck received only minor injuries.
