Park service offers Saturday porch talks at Sandburg home

The Carl Sandburg Home is offering outdoor ranger-led programs on Saturdays during October under guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local public health authorities.

Ranger-led porch talks will happen starting at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. Visitors may meet in front of the Sandburg Home for a 20-minute talk about Carl Sandburg’s writings and the Sandburg family. The free programs are offered to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the park, which was established on Oct. 17, 1968. Visitors are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines when visiting the park.

In addition, the park has reopened access to park restrooms at the top of the hill, near the Sandburg Home. These restrooms will remain open throughout the winter. Park trails, parking lots and restrooms and water bottle filling station at the top of the hill remain open.
