Incoming Henderson County schools superintendent John Bryant made his first hires of central office administrators, elevating Carl Taylor as chief administrative officer and promoting Scott Rhodes to assistant superintendent for human resources. The promotions became official when the School Board approved them at its regular meeting on Monday.
Posted publicly in September, the chief administrative officer position provides leadership and assistance to the superintendent in all matters pertaining to school ancillary services including facilities management, transportation, school admission and reassignment, district calendars and board policy, the school system said in a news release.
"We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Taylor to the HCPS Leadership Team,” Bryant said. “Mr. Taylor is a consummate professional, outstanding educator, and advocate for all children. He will be a tremendous asset to the future of our school system leadership."
An Eagle all his life, Taylor graduated from East Henderson High in 1995 and returned to teach math following his graduation from Elon University in 1999. After five years in the classroom, Taylor was named assistant principal at East, serving under Rhodes, who was principal.
In 2016, when Rhodes joined the central office administration as chief human resources officer, Taylor followed him as principal at EHHS. Prior to his three-year principalship at East, Rhodes had been principal at Flat Rock Middle School.
"Mr. Rhodes continues to bring a wealth of leadership experience and insight to our daily efforts serving the students and staff of Henderson County Public Schools,” Bryant said. “Mr. Rhodes' passion and dedication to our school communities is unmatched, and he will certainly be a key contributor to our successes in the years to come."
