Carl Tucker name athletic director at Boys & Girls Club

Carl Tucker, who played sports at a Boys & Girls Club in Concord, played football for UNC for four years, won a national championship at the University of Alabama under Coach Nick Saban and played for the Miami Dolphins, has been named athletics director of the Fazio Family Boys & Girls Club.

Growing up in Concord, Tucker and his siblings participated in sports at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, where he first discovered the opportunities athletics could provide.

After his football career, he pursued a passion for teaching, spending three years as a middle school civics teacher in Fort Myers, Florida, where his students achieved a 74 percent proficiency rating. He also coached tight ends and wide receivers at ECS High School, leading the team to back-to-back district titles.

Now, he is returning to North Carolina to take on a role that brings together his love for sports and his commitment to youth development.

“Athletics director is exactly what I was looking to do, and there could not have been a better opportunity,” he said. “I’m excited to use my knowledge and experience to contribute to the Club. ... There is no place like North Carolina. I don’t plan on leaving this state ever again, and it is an honor to have the opportunity to serve the Hendersonville community.”

“We are thrilled to have Carl join our team," said Kent Parent, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club. "His experience both on and off the field will be invaluable in strengthening our athletics program and helping our members develop their skills and confidence.”
