Playwright Horton Foote's touching drama, "The Trip to Bountiful," opens Friday and runs through Sept. 23 at Hendersonville LIttle Theatre's new performance space at 229 S. Washington St.
The play tells the story of Carrie Watts who dreams of returning to her old home in the town of Bountiful. She lives with her son Ludie and daughter-in-law Jessie Mae in a tiny apartment in Houston. Chafing under Jessie's ceaseless supervision and longing to get out of the city and into a garden, Carrie decides to run away. Her journey is the focus of "The Trip to Bountiful."
The part of Carrie is played by Faye Berry, who is making her HLT stage debut. Playing her son Ludie will be Robert Walker, also new to HLT. Jessie Mae is Carole Avery, who recently appeared as Minka Lupino in "Murderers." Completing the cast will be Jessica Donahue as Thelma, Ashley Summerrow as the sheriff, Terry Moore as Roy, and ticket agents Larry Gentile and Noah Pace.
Veteran director Sy Berg will guide this cast; Chelsea St. John is stage manager; Charlotte Overbaugh is producer, and John Arnett is set designer.
"The Trip to Bountiful" opens tonight with a champagne reception following. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students 18 years of age and younger and may be purchased on-line at www.hendersonvillelittletheatre.org or by telephoning 828-692-1082.
