Forecast calls for 100% change of precipitation with 1-2 inches of snow possible

A winter storm is expected to drop snow, sleet and freezing rain on the area starting Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday morning.

The forecast called for a 100 percent change of precipitation early Sunday with frozen precipitation changing to rain after noon. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that called for snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and up to 5 inches across the northern mountains and foothills. Ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch were also possible and winds gusting as high as 45 mph were forecast.

After a low around 30 overnight, it should warm up to 40 on Sunday. The chance of rain is 100 percent Sunday, dropping to 30 percent overnight. A gradual clearing and warmup follows, with highs of 41 on Monday, 42 on Tuesday and 50 on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
