Longtime general manager Mark Warwick and his wife, Paige Posey, have purchased radio station WTZQ 95.3 FM and AM 1600, vowing to continue the community service that has won the station a strong following from listeners.
Warwick and Posey, who also cohost the station's morning show, and their company, Flat Rock Multimedia LLC, closed on the purchase last month.
“It’s a dream come true,” Warwick said. “This has been part of the strategic plan for many years and this February the purchase of the station was finalized.”
Business partners and former owners J. Ardell and Remelle Sink have built their radio stations, WKYK in Burnsville and WTOE in Spruce Pine, with an emphasis on being hyper-local.
“Embracing and employing that philosophy is how Paige and I have made WTZQ our Q-Munity radio station," Warwick said. "With the finalization of the sale, sponsors, advertisers and supporters can be sure that every dollar spent promoting their products and services on WTZQ will remain right here in Henderson County.”
WTZQ was voted Best Local Radio station in the Best of the Blue Ridge contest three years in a row. In the latest radio industry listening survey WTZQ is ranked #1 in Henderson County for listeners age 35 and up, the station said. The station is also radio news partner of the Hendersonville Lightning, featuring "Lightning Radio" on Thursday mornings at 8 o'clock.
“We love working together and building relationships with our community partners and listeners,” Posey said, “and nothing about that is going to change.”
