City OKs rezoning to allow apartments on Sugarloaf

Apartments or condos could be built just south of the Cascades Mountain Resort on Sugarloaf Road, although there are no current plans to build.

The Hendersonville City Council on Thursday authorized a rezoning that would allow multifamily use on the three-acre parcel, which contains an annex to the Cascades hotel that has not been used since the 1980s. A staff report said the rezoning request involves "a former motel building that is being sold with an anticipated desire for the use to change to multi-family apartments."

David Day, who has owned the Cascades Mountain Resort for five years, told the Planning Board on March 8 that he plans to continue operating the hotel and hopes to sell the rear parcel.
