Pardee names new chief medical officer

Gregory McCarty, M.D., a board-certified emergency medicine physician, has been appointed as Chief Medical Officer at Pardee UNC Health Care effective Jan. 1, the hospital announced.

McCarty succeeds David Ellis, who has served as CMO since 2015 and will be retiring at the end of the year.

“Pardee is fortunate to have Dr. McCarty as CMO and lead the medical staff,” said David Ellis, Chief Medical Officer, Pardee UNC Health Care. “Dr. McCarty has been a respected colleague of mine for years and his wealth of knowledge and leadership skills will benefit our team and the service we provide to our patients.” A regional search was conducted beginning in July 2021, when Dr. Ellis announced his retirement.
In his time with Pardee, McCarty has served in many leadership roles including Pardee Hospital Chief of Staff, Director of Pardee Emergency Physicians, and Medical Director for the Chest Pain Center at Pardee, and most recently as Medical Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. McCarty was instrumental in the development of Pardee’s heart program and designation as a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Hospital in 2021, demonstrating its capability to ensure quality 24/7 ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) care.

As CMO, Dr. McCarty will have operational oversight of multiple departments. Some of his duties include coordination of the medical staff activities, championing clinical pathways, and ensuring that the viewpoints of all clinicians are presented and considered as a part of strategic decisions. “I am honored and excited to serve Pardee in this new capacity as Chief Medical Officer,” said Dr. McCarty. “I look forward to using my experience in training physicians, treating patients during emergency situations, and expanding and advancing care, to help push Pardee forward as we work to continually meet the needs of our community.”
Born and raised in Brevard, McCarty graduated first from the University of Virginia with a degree in chemistry, then went on to study medicine at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in emergency medicine at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte before moving to Hendersonville in 2007 to join Pardee’s emergency department as an attending physician.
Pardee UNC Health Care is a not-for-profit community hospital founded in 1953 and is managed by UNC Health Care. The hospital is licensed for 222 acute care beds.
