Fourth of July features parade, concert and fireworks (3)

The city's Independence Day parade takes place starting at 10:30 a.m. today followed by an expanded Fourth of July celebration along five blocks of Main Street culminating in the fireworks show.

Henderson County Tourism Development Authority and Henderson County Parks and Recreation are teaming up on the celebration from Third Avenue to Caswell Street that includes bluegrass bands from 5 to 9 on the Historic Courthouse Plaza.

The Lonesome Road Band from 5-6:30 pm and Supper Break from 7 pm-9 pm in front of the Historic Courthouse, along with games, face painting, craft corner, inflatables, food trucks and more starting at 5.

At the Visitor Center Stage, the TDA will host BSE Band from 7 to 9:30. At either concert location, people are encouraged to bring a chair and sit back, relax and enjoy the music followed by the fireworks display. WTZQ radio will simulcast the fireworks with patriotic music.

The parade, from Caswell Street to Sixth Avenue, runs south to north, opposite the direction of the Apple Festival and Christmas parades. 


No parking will be permitted along the parade route after 6 a.m. Main Street from its southern intersection at King Street to Sixth Avenue will close at approximately 9 a.m. Traffic will still be able to traverse the avenues until approximately 10:15 a.m. when they will close in preparation for the 10:30 a.m. parade start. The avenues and Main Street from Third Avenue to Sixth Avenue will reopen as the last entry progresses along the route. The Main Street blocks from Caswell to Third Avenue will remain closed in preparation for the 4th of July Concert and Fireworks hosted by the Tourism Development Authority and Henderson County Parks and Recreation.

The fireworks launch site is off South Grove Street and a large balloon will be launched the morning of the Fourth to signify where the fireworks will be seen. The fireworks display will take place between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Motorists should avoid the launch site area (South Grove Street between the bridges) before and during the fireworks display. It is recommended that attendees leave pets safely and comfortably at home.

P.E.O. to sell pecans

P.E.O. Chapter H will sell Schermer pecans to support educational opportunities for women through P.E.O.’s educational projects during Hendersonville’s Music on Main Fourth of July concert and at other events in Henderson, Transylvania and Polk counties this summer. Glazed, cinnamon glazed, dark chocolate, milk chocolate and caramel cluster pecans are available for $12 per 8 oz. bag. (cash or check only).

City offices closed July 4
The city of Hendersonville government offices will be closed on Monday, July 4. Garbage, recycling and brush collection for city of Hendersonville customers will not be taking place on Monday, July 4. Collection for Monday customers will be delayed by one week with collection resuming on Monday, July 11. Any extra bagged garbage from Monday customers will be picked up on July 11.
