Historic Saluda depot to reopen after Helene repairs

The Saluda Depot will celebrate a grand reopening on April 4 that will celebrate its repair from structural damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

The depot was awarded a Polk County Community Foundation grant back in June of 2024 to fund the third Night at the Museum event. The 1903 building had damage that threatened the stability of a structure that has been a historic landmark in Saluda and a significant tourist attraction. As a result, the Depot Board of Directors sought help again from the PCCF to repair the foundation and dix the damage caused by the hurricane Helene.

The grand reopening and Night at the Museum from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, will include music provided by Mercury Rising, food and beverages. The event also will feature historical characters who will re-enact the history of the depot as a heritage museum emphasizing the significance and contribution of the railroad, the Saluda Grade and the history of the town of Saluda. This is a free community event and all are welcomed.

The Saluda Historic Depot and museum board expressed thanks to the Polk County Community Foundation for its support that will help preserve and maintain the Saluda Depot Museum as a local historical destination for tourists and our area communities for many years to come. The Saluda Depot Museum is open noon-4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
