The Valley Hill Fire & Rescue Department has launched a new campaign to warn drivers of the dangers of texting while driving.
The "u TXT u DRV u Die" campaign is designed to educate drivers in Henderson County on the dangers associated with distracted driving.
"Using a cell phone while driving, whether it's handheld or hands free, delays a driver's reactions as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent," Valley Hill Chief Tim Garren said. "The age group with greatest proportion of distracted drivers is the under 20 age group."
The department attempt to reach every young adult driver in the Henderson County school system by distributing brochures and posters with real life statistics in Henderson County high schools this week. The department has also deployed roadside banners at Valley Hill's four stations to raise awareness of the danger. "Don't let us be the response to your text," the sign says.
