Allison Jones Rushing, a Henderson County native and graduate of East Hendersonville High School who serves on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, is on President Trump's shortlist for the U.S. Supreme Court, multiple news organizations reported.
Rushing, who was confirmed to the federal appeals court in March of 2019, made the list of 20 potential nominees for the high court Trump made public earlier this month. After graduating from East Henderson High School, Rushing earned a bachelor degree at Wake Forest University before graduating magna cum laude from Duke's law school.
Rushing, 38, clerked for some of the biggest names in the judiciary, including Canton native David Sentelle, a senior U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge; 10th Circuit judge Neil Gorsuch, before he won confirmation to the Supreme Court; and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. She is the daughter of David and Lynnette Jones.
