Harley Benson, 69,

Harley Benson, 69, of Flat Rock went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2017. He was a son of the late Samuel and Ruby Hensley Benson. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine, in 2015 and by two brothers, David and Cecil Benson.
Harley was a member of Dana Baptist Church and retired from Ecusta. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching Westerns.
Survivors include his son, Jerry D. Benson (Tonya) of Flat Rock; daughter, Holly B. Turner (Greg) of Columbus; four grandchildren, Courtney (Austin), Dawson, Gracie and Bella; one great-grandson, Ryker Wolf; and one sister, Beatrice Pratt of Hendersonville.
Funeral services will be held 11am on Friday, February 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the park.

Azlyan Faith “Azzy” Dal Bo, 18

Azlyan Faith “Azzy” Dal Bo, 18, of Flat Rock, NC crossed over Sunday, February 12, 2017. She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County.
She loved astrology, music and being there for her friends.
Azzy is survived by her mother, Tami Dal Bo of Flat Rock; her grandparents, Linda and Eric Peace of Hendersonville and Richard and Betsy Dal Bo of Hendersonville; her maternal great grandmother, Sarah Herring; her sister, Kira; many special cousins, aunts, uncles and friends and her dog LOLA.

A Celeberation of Azzy’s Life will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, February 25th at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.

Rose Marie Crellin, 72

Rose Marie Crellin, 72, of Hendersonville passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Universal Healthcare after a period of declining health. She was the daughter of the late Domingo and Rose Marotta.

Rose began her career as an urban planner for the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission. She subsequently moved to Washington, DC. Rose retired from the Federal Government after working as an economist within many different departments including the Departments of Health and Human Services and the Department of Transportation. She was also an attorney and an economist for the Federal Communications Commission. She enjoyed reading and traveling especially to the Northeast and Canada.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Ronald E. Crellin; four sons, James Anthony Acosta, Scott Allen Crellin and wife Heather, Robert James Crellin and wife Kristen all of CA and Michael Brian Crellin of KS; and one brother, Robert Marotta of CA.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the WC State Veterans Cemetery.

Brian Scott Shafer, 38, whose beautiful soul went to be with God on Tuesday, February 14th, 2017 will be greatly missed by many. Born April 28th, 1978 in Asheville, NC, he was a man full of love and integrity-- an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Brian is survived by his parents Joanne and Scott Shafer, his sister Jennifer Shafer, and his fiancé Sue Hjelsand and her two children Morgan and Aidan. Dorothea VerBryck, 98,

Dorothea VerBryck, 98, of Hendersonville entered her heavenly home surrounded by family on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Tore's Home. Born in Allen County, Fort Wayne, IN on February 9, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Emma Kaade Prange. Her husband, Bill VerBryck, also preceded her in death.
Dorothea was formerly employed in the office of Dr. A. J. Roser & Shoaff Park Golf Course. She was a member of Our Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Char Lee (Bill) of Asheboro, NC and Marcia Kane (Jim) of Hendersonville, NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; and a steadfast church family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 AM at Our Hope Lutheran Church, Huntertown, IN with Pastor Joe Fichtner officiating. Dorothea was laid to rest next to her husband, Bill, on February 9, 2017 at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN. Jewel Clontz Orr, 79, of Hendersonville gained her wings and flew to Heaven on February 11th, 2017. She was a founding member of Sugarloaf Baptist Church, she was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her Lord and Savior and loved to tell everyone about Him. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Theodore Orr, her father Norman Clontz, her mother Cecil Sanford Clontz, her 3 sisters Patsy Moore, Libby Woody, and Helen Ann Rhinehart, her brother Denny Wayne Clontz, a daughter Wanda Kay Orr and a grandson Kasey Charles Orr.

She is survived by her 3 daughters Diane Orr Morrow, Maryalice Galloway & husband Mike, and Martha Orr Pruitt & husband Sidney, and her 2 sons Charles Edward Orr & wife Roxy Van-Sant Orr and Dean Orr & wife Vickey. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren John Paul Cabiness, Thomas Matthew Orr, Timothy James Orr, Sarah Marie Pruitt, Michael Aaron Orr Galloway, Bethany Elise Pruitt, Sabrina Van-Sant Orr, Kayla Van-Sant Orr. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren Bently Michael Pruitt, Carter Mason Pruitt and Rose Marie Boaz.

Eddie " Max " Capps, 63

Eddie “Max” Capps, 63, of Hendersonville, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 11, 2017 after a short illness with his family by his side.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Jesse Torrence and Lois Eva Maxwell Capps. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Donnie Capps.
Max graduated from Edneyville High School, class of 1973. He was a founding member of King's Grove Baptist Church, worked at American Feldmuehle and retired from Borg Warner.
He is survived by fiancée, Karyl Kyser and children, Jeffery Roehm and wife Paula, Janice Luther and husband Tom; brothers, Stanley Capps and wife Shelia of Hendersonville, and Ronnie Capps of Hendersonville; nieces and nephews, Chris Capps and wife Nancy, Kirk Capps and wife Dawn, Ji-Young Metcalf and husband Doug, Jennifer Balkcom and husband Clint, and Jeremy Capps and wife Kathy; many great-nieces and nephews and two special pets, Brandi and Mie.

Bobbie J. Freeman, 80, of Hendersonville, went home with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 6, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Rutherford County and a resident of Henderson County for more than 62 years, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Eva Owens and was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Wilds.
Bobbie was employed by Ball Brothers Corp for over 30 years and was a member of Ebenezer Church.
She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Frank Freeman; son, Michael Freeman of Fort Lauderdale, Fl and James Fredrick ; daughter, Tammy Freeman of Charlotte and Hayne Cannon; brother, Winfred Owens and Joyce; sister-in-law, Margaret Plemmons; and many nieces and nephews.

Reverend Calvin Jay Adams, 66, of Flat Rock, NC passed away Monday, February 6, 2017.
He was a native of Caldwell County and had resided in Henderson County since 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orin Steele Adams and Fannie Bly Sutton Adams and five brothers, Elbert, Bill, Walter, Wayne and George.
He had pastored at Morning Star Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC and New Grace Christian Church in Hendersonville, NC.
He liked to fish, sing and play the guitar.
He is survived by two sons, David Adams and his wife Sonya of Franklin, NC and Kevin Adams and his wife Kim of Morganton, NC; a daughter, Andrea Wallace of East Flat Rock; two sisters, Bertha and Gail; three brothers, Otis, Charles and Howard; seven grandchildren, Cameron, Eli, Colby and her fiancé Chris Cota, Carly, Kyle and Adam and Arnie Ward; three great grandchildren, Zayda, Jeremiah and Annabelle and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, February 11th at Cornerstone Covenant Church, 3015 Heffner Place, Hudson, NC 28638. The family will receive friends following the service in the church.

Mildred Coren, 84, went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of Emmett and Ola Bayne Ward.
Mildred was the loving wife of the late Bill Coren.
Mother to Michael Coren and Micki Jackson and her husband Roger.
Grandmother to Jason Jackson Sr. and his wife Angel, Christin Taylor and her husband Clint, and Elisa Gray and her husband Brandon.
Great grandmother to Jason Jackson Jr, Jeremiah Jackson, Jacob Jackson, Jamison Jackson, Alex Taylor, Cameron Taylor and Avaree Gray.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was preceded in death by her parents, Grady M. Johnson Sr. and Clarsie Morgan Johnson, two brothers, Grady Johnson Jr. and Bill Johnson and a sister, Clara Anderson.
She was a long-time member of Mud Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Ray Gibbs Sr.; two sons, Chuck Gibbs and his wife Suzanne of Hendersonville and Shaun Gibbs and his wife Jamie of Hendersonville; a daughter, Cindy Gallian and her husband Tony of Etowah; a brother, George Johnson and his wife Jackie of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Matthew, Evan, Gregory, Caden, Sofie and Drake; a brother-in-law, Johnny Gibbs and his wife Debbie of Hendersonville; several nieces and nephews and her canine companion, Daisy Mae.

Nancy B. Nelson, 65

Nancy B. Nelson, 65, of Hendersonville passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Mission Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Frances P. and Grover C. Beddingfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Terry M. Nelson and a brother, Marlon C. Beddingfield.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, Nancy retired from G.E. following 33 years of employment. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church and was a licensed beautician since the age of 17. Nancy loved to read, watch movies and travel with her husband. Her biggest passion was her family.
Survivors include her two sons, Brent C. Nelson and Terry J. Nelson and his wife Amber, both of Hendersonville; four grandchildren, Hunter Nelson, Kayla Moran, Skylar and Keiley Laughter; three sisters, O’Keitha Gabriel, Yvonne Lindsey and her husband Eddie and Mary Jayne and her husband Charles all of Tuxedo.

Timothy Christopher Patterson, 62

Timothy Christopher Patterson, 62, of Flat Rock passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family who had cared for him in his final days. He was the son of the late T.C. and Evelyn Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Teresa Dotson Patterson and a sister, Shirley P. Sherman.
A native of Henderson County, he served as a Sergeant in US Army Special Forces, Green Beret. Tim retired from the Henderson County Public School system after 30 years of service as a mechanic in the bus garage. His love for the Lord was great and he served many years as the music director and a Sunday school teacher at Berea Baptist Church. He loved his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed muscle cars, camping, boating, yard-sales and was known as a “passionate second hand shopper”.
Survivors include his mother that raised him, Helen Patterson Camp; his wife of 16 years, Linda Gilliam Patterson; children, Tracy Patterson Walden and husband Von, Josh Patterson and wife Amanda and Kerri Patterson Smith and husband Dennis; step-children, Ryan Stepp and wife Stacie, Justin Stepp and Heather Stepp Allen; 18 grandchildren; mother-in-law’s, Myrtle Gordon and Verna Ward; special friend, Bill Devine; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful pets.
Funeral services will be held 1pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Linda Huskins Thomas, 71

Linda Huskins Thomas, 71, of Hendersonville went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Elizabeth House after a brief Illness. A native of Davidson County, Linda had lived in Henderson County for forty-five years. A daughter of the late Fred and Stella Huskins, she was also preceded in death by her son, Randall Shane Thomas, and five sisters, Betty Sue, Louise, Carol, Joyce Ann and Becky.
Linda was a registered nurse with Pardee Home Health. She was a member of Bat Cave Baptist Church and the Ladies’ Sunday School Class. Linda supported community youth programs, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Edneyville and North Henderson High School Athletics and Band Boosters. She supported youth groups at Pleasant Hill United Methodist and Hughes Grove Baptist Churches in Thomasville and Mountain View Baptist, Ebenezer Baptist, and Bat Cave Baptist Churches in Hendersonville. She also supported the Law Enforcement Community.
Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-four years, Ivey Thomas; a son, Jack Thomas of Annapolis, MD; a daughter, Amy Wilkie and her husband, Jerome, of Hoopers Creek; seven grandchildren, Joshua Thomas and his wife, Jordan, John Thomas, Ivey Wilkie, Lauren Thomas, Emma, Isaac and Avlyn Stella May Wilkie; a great-granddaughter, Jensyn Thomas; two brothers, Jack Huskins and his wife, Lucy, of Thomasville and James Richard Huskins and his wife, Linda, of Pikeville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Bat Cave Baptist Church. Revs. Jim Hyler, Ivey Thomas, James Huskins and Jack Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service in the church.

Eugene “Gene” Constant Southworth, 84

Eugene “Gene” Constant Southworth, 84, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Pardee Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 1, 1932 in Agawam, MA to the late Eugene E. and Hazel Smith Chapin Southworth. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Ellis Southworth in 2013 and Richard Chapin Southworth in 2015.
Gene was a graduate of Agawam High School and Western New England University. He also attended American International College in Springfield, MA and Northeastern College in Boston, MA. During his working years, he was an engineer for an insurance company, first in Springfield, MA, then transferred to VT and retired in 1991 to Ocala, FL. Gene then decided to follow a dream of being a Christian volunteer with his wife, Carol. They belonged to a group called Mobile Missionaries and Sowers, also known as Servants on Wheels Ever Ready. They did whatever was needed for the Lord for eight years, traveling in their RV to every state to Christian camps, schools, churches, and missions. They were at Word of Life Bible Institute when 9/11 occurred. Due to illness, Gene had to retire from traveling but did volunteer two times after Katrina with the church they were attending in FL, doing what he loved, reaching out to those in need. He loved carpentry and remodeled three old homes in VT, and he loved to camp, fish, and hike.
Gene served his country as Staff Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War, eighteen months in the Philippines and twelve months in Japan. He and a group of his classmates joined the inactive Naval Reserve and had to be honorably discharged before enlisting in the US Army. Gene was a member of the Blue Lodge of Masons in VT for 45 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Gwendolyn Orr Southworth; two sons, Peter Ellis Southworth and his wife, Theresa, of Ludlow, VT, and Jeffrey Allen Southworth and his wife, Raeanne, of Benson, VT; three grandsons, Bradley Stearns Southworth and his wife, Kim, and their son, Connor; Aaron Peter Southworth and his fiancé, Ashley, and Nicholas Raymond Southworth and his fiancé, Erin; two step-granddaughters, Lisa and Sarah; two step-great-grandchildren, Zoa and Theodore; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Troy K. Blackwell, 76, of Zirconia, NC passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at his home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “EC” and Mae McGaha Blackwell; a daughter, Lori Lynnette Blackwell and a sister, Bernice Pace. He served in the US Navy and had owned and operated Auto World and Blackwell’s Lawn Care. He is survived by his wife Lynne Martin Blackwell; a son, Lane Blackwell and his wife Mary of Zirconia; a grandson, Adam Lane Blackwell and his wife Stephanie of East Flat Rock; a granddaughter, Camryn Paige Blackwell of Zirconia; a great grandson, Brody; a brother, Boyce Blackwell and his wife Geneva of Hendersonville; sisters, Faye Fish of Granite Falls, NC, Marie Gosnell and her husband George of East Flat Rock and Sue Hensley and her husband Paul of Hendersonville and many nieces and nephews.
