Stanley L. Scarborough, 64

Stanley L. Scarborough, 64, of Hendersonville, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Elizabeth House following a brief illness. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Nelda Tiller Scarborough and the late Henry Scarborough. He had been a resident of Henderson County for over 35 years. Stanley retired from Dupont after 30 years of service.
He was an avid motorsports fan and had built and raced many drag race cars. He enjoyed time at the lake and waterskiing. Stan was a master on the barbeque, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a very loving husband, and he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Fisher Scarborough; mother, Nelda Scarborough of Elberton, GA; brother, Samuel Scarborough and his wife Trisha of GA; sister, Elizabeth Edwards and her husband Bill of GA; lifelong friend, Doug Dunlap and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 1-2pm. A memorial service will then be held at 2 pm in the chapel.

Martha Jane Rector Pryor, 93, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015.
A native of Madison County, NC, Martha was the daughter of the late Paul V. and Leesta Rector of Marshall, NC.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Selma R. Ramsey of Marshall, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Pryor of Flat Rock; her son, Gary Pryor and his wife Nina of Centreville, VA; her granddaughters, Amanda and Rebecca.

Lila Mae King Ballard, 89

Lila Mae King Ballard, 89, of Hendersonville, died peacefully Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville.

She was native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. Lila was a daughter of the late David and Nellie King and was the wife of the late Fralow Ballard. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Teresa; brothers, Carl and Paul King and sister Ruth Heaton.

She loved taking care of her home and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mom, and Mamaw. Her faith was in Jesus Christ and she was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Lila is survived by her daughters, June Cox and husband Bud of Beaufort, SC, and Sarah Edgell and husband Eddie of Flat Rock; son, Patrick Ballard of Hendersonville; four grandchildren, Lisa, Rhonda, Grace, and John; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Manny, and Renn; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 6, 2015 in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Conard officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marie Davis Smith Long, 96

Marie Davis Smith Long, 96, of Hendersonville, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015.
A native of Charlotte, Marie lived in Henderson County 27 years. She was a daughter of the late Wilbur C. and Ola Bell Johnston Smith, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Graham B. Long. She was a bookkeeper for Langendorf Bakery in San Jose, CA for 22 years. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church of East Flat Rock.
Survivors include her son, Gary Long of Hendersonville; sister, Peggy Stilwell of Huntersville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, September 4, 2015 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Woodworth officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Richard (Dick) Clinton

Richard (Dick) Clinton , of Hendersonville, born 12/17/30 in Jamesburg, NJ died on September 1st at the Elizabeth House.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Polly, daughter Betsy
(Tom) Tyo of Naperville, IL, son Jon Clinton of Candler, NC,
granddaughter Julie Jastremski of St. Louis, MO, grandsons Jeremy and
Sean Clinton of Houston, Texas, and sister-in-law Dotti Sayre of West
Grove , PA and other extended family. Dick was a loving husband, father ,
grandfather and friend to many.

Dick was a graduate of Rider College. Dick & Polly were married
on June 21, 1952 in Princeton and moved to Poughkeepsie, NY, after Dick
served in the Army at Ft. Dix, NJ from 1954-1956. – The family has also
lived Naperville, IL, Houston, TX He worked as a director for Human
Resources for IBM, Chemetron and Tenneco.

Dick & Polly retired to Hendersonville , NC in 1997. Dick has
been an active member of First Congregational Church in Hendersonville
since moving here spending hours tuning the antique pipe organ and
working on the sound system, one of his favorite hobbies. He also
enjoyed fishing, music and was a true Mr. Fix-IT around the house.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, September 4 at
the First Congregational UCC, 5th Avenue, Hendersonville , NC. Burial
will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations in Dick’s
memory to Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat
Rock, NC 28731.

Albert Corn, 92

Albert Corn, 92, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Laurels of Hendersonville, after an extended illness.
A Henderson County native, Albert was the son of the late Franklin and Ella Capps Corn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janette Redden Corn and their six children, Hogan Corn and wife Joyce, Jonathan Corn and wife Gidget, Chris Corn, Greg Corn and wife Susie, Jan Corn and wife Linda, and Karen Jones and her husband Mark. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Beddingfield, Elizabeth Bradley, and Margaret Holbert and husband Bill. He is survived by four sister-in-laws, Ruth Corn, Mary Joyce Corn, Dora Corn and Shirley Redden. He was preceded in death by six brothers, James, Harley, Willie, J.C., Ed, and George Corn; two brother-in-laws, Cecil and Kenneth Redden, and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Levi Corn. He has eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Albert Corn served in World War II, Army 4th Cavalry armored vehicle and tank division, in Germany, France and Poland. After the war, he worked as a plaster, tile, and drywall contractor throughout western North Carolina, East Tennessee and South Carolina. A point of pride was his participation in the construction of over 50 churches. He was a fixture at Friendship Baptist Church in Saluda where he also served as a deacon. He was a Christian man who loved to share his faith in Christ. He loved well and was well loved by all who knew him. He was warm and funny and loved to laugh.
There will be a visitation at the fellowship building at Tuxedo First Baptist Church on Thursday, September 3rd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Felicia AnnElizabeth Reeves, 40

Felicia AnnElizabeth Reeves, 40 of Hendersonville passed away Friday August 28, 2015.
A U.S. Army veteran, she served in Korea in 1995. She had been a medical assistant.
Survivors include, her mother and step father, Marshia and Stephen Karpusiewicz of Hendersonville, her father Retired Command Sargent Major William Reeves Sr. of China Grove, NC, two sons Chaise and Addison Reeves - Boley , two sisters Suzan Bayorgeon of Stevens Pt, WI and Cheryl Allison and her husband Mark of Marshall, NC, two brothers, Gene Stubbs of Enka, NC and Billy and Michelle Reeves of Charleston, SC and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday September 4, 2015 at 12 noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. Military Honors will be provided by the National Guard. Burial will follow the service.

Conrad Maddox Baker

Conrad Maddox Baker, infant son of Dillon and Alex Baker of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Mission Hospital.
Maddox weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. He touched many lives and was loved deeply by family and friends. "Some people only dream of angels, we were blessed to hold one in our arms."
He was preceded in death by a maternal great grandfather, Conrad D. Watkins and paternal great grandparents, John Thomas and Johnnie Sue Baker and David and Brenda Shipley.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents, Connie Stewart of Fletcher and Scott and Melody Stewart of Fletcher; paternal grandparents, Terry and Pamela Baker of Etowah; maternal great grandmother, Arlene Watkins of Fletcher; maternal great grandparents, Tom and Gail Hall of Hendersonville and Robert and Peggy Stewart of Greer, S.C.; aunts and uncles, Jack Stewart, Cameron Baker and his wife Heather, Stephanie Gash and her husband Jamey and Brett Baker all of Hendersonville; numerous cousins and two canine siblings, Aspen and Knox.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jackson Funeral Service. A private burial service will be held.

Dianna Dee Heatherly, 56

Dianna Dee Heatherly, 56 of Rutherfordton NC after a nine month battle with cancer, the Lord called her home.
She was born and raised in Camarillo, CA, lived in Henderson County until 2000 and has since resided in Rutherford County.
She managed Norm’s on Dana Road for seven years. She enjoyed riding her Honda Shadow. She was a member of Dana Baptist Church.
Survived by her husband Tommy Heatherly, her parents Ronald and Norma Jolly Vakoc of Hendersonville, four stepchildren, Bobby Heatherly, Kathy Heatherly, Roger Heatherly and Barry Heatherly, three brothers, Fred Vakoc and his wife Vicki of Hendersonville, Rodney Vakoc and his wife Lorie of Tucson, AZ and Brad Vakoc of Hendersonville, her niece, Tonya Reeves and her husband Seth of Canton and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Dianna’s life will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, September 03, 2015 at Dana Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating. The family request casual dress. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the celebration in the church.

Teddy Hugh “Ted” Freeman, 85

Teddy Hugh “Ted” Freeman, 85, of Edneyville, NC died Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
A native of Edneyville and a 1948 graduate of Edneyville High School; USAF 1949-1953; Electronics School, New Haven, Conn; Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, Kansas; Martins Aircraft and Missiles, Orlando, Florida; General Electric 1964 and was an orchardist who loved farming, classic cars and old Mercedes.
He was the son of the late John Leo Freeman and Bertie Mae Stepp who lived in Edneyville. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jana Sue Freeman Flynn who died January 2, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Villa Holland Freeman; sons, Gregory Leo Freeman and his wife Jonna McKeivier of Oak Hill, Kansas and Tracy Holland Freeman of Edneyville; 2 grandchildren, Brad Freeman and Veronica Freeman; one brother, John Paul Freeman of Edneyville with nieces, Amanda Leigh Dalton and Elizabeth Ann Laughter; nieces, Melissa Gordner of Hendersonville and Melody Holland Holeman of Athens, GA; son-in-law, Christopher John Flynn of Charlotte and grandchildren, Connor Arrington and Ella Holland Flynn all of Charlotte.
Ted was a very sociable, friendly person, loved family gatherings, loved his cousins and being with friends. He was greatly loved, admired and respected by his family and friends and a firm support for all. He will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Mountain Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dale Gilbert officiating.

Ricky Dennis Sparks, 64

Ricky Dennis Sparks, age 64, of Hendersonville NC died Sunday, August 16th, 2015.

He was born in Roaring River NC and was the son of the late, Clifton Obar Sparks and the late Juanita Hooper Sparks.

Ric is survived by one sister, Rebecca Sparks Poplin (Douglas) and one brother, Gary Michael Sparks (Martha) as well as several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from East Wilkes High School and continued his education at Durham Tech where he earned his degree as a dental technician.

He was a long loved friend of his family at Village Ceramics Inc. where he had been employed until his retirement in 2012.

All who knew Ric will always remember his wit, wonderful stories and his talent for writing music, singing and playing the guitar. He will be missed greatly.

Thurman Justice Cairnes, 65

Thurman Justice Cairnes, 65, a native and lifelong resident of Mills River, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Justice Cairnes, his mother, Lilly Mae Patterson, and brothers, Clarence E. and David.
He was employed by Cairnes Electric for 17 years as an electrician until he opened his own business, “Thurman Electric,” in May of 1981 and served the North and South Carolina areas until the present. Thurman was a faithful member of Naples Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching classic Westerns and spending time with his family and his dog.
Thurman is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sadie Patterson Cairnes; their four children, Julie Guthrie and husband, Russell; Tammy McDonald and husband, Chad; Tonya Cairnes; and Thurman Justice Cairnes II (TJ)and wife, Jennifer; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his beloved dog and “girlfriend,” Tootsie.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Naples Baptist Church with the Pastor Richard Merck officiating. The burial will follow in Sitton-Gillespie Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30am to noon at the church.

(Lola) Jane O. Mayson, 82,

(Lola) Jane O. Mayson, 82, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Hazel Russell Osteen and her husband, W. Lyman Mayson.
She worked at General Electric and retired from First Union Bank in 1995 after 20 years of service.
Her infectious laugh brought smiles to everyone. She was a very avid and active bridge player with the Hendersonville Bridge Club, playing at the local and regional level, was a member of the Henderson County Soroptimist Club and enjoyed bowling. She was a lifelong “foodie”.
She is survived by her loving niece and nephews, Cass Mullen (Joel) of Hendersonville, Rob Johnson Jr. (Patty) of Charleston, SC, Mark V. Johnson (Lana) of Fort Worth, TX and Steve Johnson of Columbia, SC; a great nephew, Hunter Mullen of Hendersonville; cousins, Tom Sherman (Janet) of Holden Beach, NC, Larry Turner of Hendersonville, Joan “Jo” Toney of Hendersonville, Todd Sherman (Vicki) of Hendersonville, Mike Kuykendall (Candy) of Sacramento, CA and Kathi Flowers of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a step-daughter of Asheville; many additional cousins, dear friends and her Bridge Playing Community.

Ashley Marie Roberts, 21

Ashley Marie Roberts, 21, of Flat Rock, was granted her angel wings on August 9, 2015, following injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Ashley was born on August 19, 1993 at 4:50 a.m. in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and was a lifelong area resident. Ashley graduated from East Henderson High School in 2012, and was working as a legal assistant for Attorney William Gardo. Ashley was smart, beautiful, talented, and full of life. She was everything a parent could ever want in a daughter.

Ashley is survived by her mother and father, Timothy and Sharon Roberts of Flat Rock, one sister, Erica Roberts, and one niece Maddie Cox, both of Flat Rock. Ashley was also survived by her grandparents, Jim Roberts and Rhonda Dleozier, Emogene Reynolds, and Gail Clifton, all of Hendersonville, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her aunt Jamie Bowlin, her aunt Paulette (Pk) McMinn, and her grandfather, Roger Clifton.

Services will be held at Mud Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, August 15, 2015. There will be a visitation at 10:00a.m. followed by a celebration of Ashley's life at 12:00 noon. Flowers can be sent to Jackson Funeral Services. For all who will, family and friends are requested to bring pink balloons to send off in remembrance of Ashley and her love for balloons all in her favorite color.

Leslie Forrest “Doc” Coletrain Sr., 63, of Hendersonville, NC
passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.

He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, had resided in Wichita,
Kansas before moving to Hendersonville in 2006. He was preceded in
death by his mother, Betty Jean Copeland, a brother, Lewis Meredith and
an aunt, Carolyn Stanley and her husband Raymond.

He is survived by a son, Leslie Coletrain Jr. of Hollywood Florida;
his father, Pearlie Coletrain and his wife Gloria of Minnesota; his
sister, Wanda Lanning of Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren; two
nieces, Christina Freelan and her husband Brian of Weaverville and
Melissa Johnson and her husband Adam of Horse Shoe, NC; six grand nieces
and nephews, Tyler, Sean, Dylan, Kimber, Xoe and Mason.

No services are planned.
