The Henderson County Republican Party will christen its new headquarters with a campaign kickoff rally and fundraiser from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway.
State Sen. Tom Apodaca is scheduled to open the rally followed by Sheriff Charlie McDonald and state Reps. Chuck McGrady and Chris Whitmire. U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows will wrap up the event around noon, said Republican Party Chairman Glen Englram.
"Folks need to come together and get behind our candidates in competitive races," he said.
The party is renting two offices and has use of a large assembly room twice a month for $700 a month. The Opportunity House is operated by the Opportunity Group, a nonprofit corporation.
Englram said the Asheville Highway location with its large parking lot should accommodate larger gatherings and meet the party's needs. Unlike in past election cycles, he said the party plans to keep its headquarters open.
"After the election is over, we'll convert that to a more multi-use gathering space," he said.
In recent years, the local GOP has rented space on Greenville Highway and on Third Avenue West downtown. Englram said he had run across old letterhead showing the party had rented three different storefront spaces on Third Avenue.
