Icy roads, refreezing keep schools closed again today

Henderson County schools are closed again today and students on a remote learning day.

"While the main roads have melted well, lots of the secondary roads did not melt as we had hoped and still have significant stretches covered in snow and ice," Superintendent Mark Garrett said in a notification to families Monday night. "In addition, the slushy and wet areas on these and other roads will refreeze overnight with temperatures not predicted to rise above freezing until late tomorrow morning. These are all concerns for our buses and student drivers. As a result, HCPS will operate on a Remote Learning Day. While I know this is frustrating to hear, especially if you live in an area with roads that are clear and dry, we have to take into consideration the conditions across the entire county when making a final decision on the school schedule."
