Buncombe County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state and Henderson County the second lowest, labor statistics showed.
The Mountain Area Workforce region, made up of Buncombe, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania counties, continues to maintain the lowest unemployment rate of any region in the state. The unemployment rate was 3.4% in Buncombe County, 3.8% in Henderson County, 4.2% in Madison County and 4.3% in Transylvania County. All four counties in the region were below the state unemployment rate for May 2019 of 4.4%. There are 8,345 unemployed individuals in the region as of June 2019 compared to 7,205 unemployed individuals as of June 2018.
