The city of Hendersonville will be getting street lights that are easier on the eyes.
The City Council on Thursday authorized $18,000 to replace 450 4,000-kilowatt street lights with 3,000-kilowatt lights. Duke Energy crews are currently working to replace about 400 older mercury vapor lights, public works director Tom Wooten told the council. Once they change those out, crews will replace the 3,000-kilowatt lights. The project is expected to be finished by the end of January provided the lights arrive in time from a manufacturer. The council's action was part of an effort to make public outdoor lighting "dark sky" compliant.
