Inez Nevy Albetta, 96

Inez Nevy Albetta, 96, loving mother and devoted wife, died peacefully the morning of Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Spring Arbor West, Hendersonville, with her family by her side.

Inez was born in June, 1917, in Cumberland, Md., to the late Ralph and Erminia Nevy. She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, and as a professional social worker, she assisted the poor throughout rural Allegany County in western Maryland. She moved to New York City after the Second World War, and was employed by the international division of the Westinghouse Corporation. It was there she met Frank Albetta, who was to become her husband of 67 years.

Inez and Frank raised their family in Oyster Bay, N.Y. As Frank's work required frequent and lengthy international travel, Inez was a solo parent for weeks at a time, but she was still active in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and her church's Christian Mothers Society.

In 1990, Inez and Frank retired to Hendersonville, where she developed many loving friendships with neighbors, art league members, and fellow parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church. She worked as a volunteer in the Immaculata Catholic School library, and sewed costumes for the annual Passion plays. She and Frank were avid travelers and made many visits to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Germany, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Inez was also a skilled and prolific oil painter. Her sense of beauty and style was further reflected in her sewing projects, her garden, and her hand-crafted holiday decorations.

Inez's loving and generous spirit, devotion to family, faith, and sense of humor were rewarded with a rich, full life. She was preceded in death by her brother, Aldo Nevy, and her sister Viola Nevy Orsinger. She is survived by her husband Frank, her son Frank, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathryn Newton of Chapel Hill, daughter Christine of Longmont, Colo., daughter Gloria and son-in-law Frank Fabens of Seattle, Wash., and sister, Florence Nevy Lander of Dayton, Ohio. She also leaves behind four grandsons, one granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at with a reception lunch immediately following. Inez will be laid to rest at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731. Inez's family members extend their thanks to the staffs of Four Seasons Hospice and of Spring Arbor West, who provided loving care for our wife and mother for almost two years.
