Victoria Case, 59, of Hendersonville and Palm Springs, Calif., passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.

Mr. William "Bill" W. Vogt, 92, of Hendersonville died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.
Bill was a member of Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Ralph Workman's Sabbath School Class. He was retired from Review & Herald Publishing Association in Hagerstown, Md., with 42 years of service. Bill enjoyed traveling, working on the lawn and flowers, and volunteered for Park Ridge Hospital. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Floyd, Carl, and Robert.
Mr. Vogt is survived by his wife of 70 years, June Vogt, sisters, Pauline Templeman of Hendersonville, Shirley Schmachtenberg and husband, Dick of Leonardtown, Md., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marcella Nicholls Fedor, 88, of Hendersonville died Wednesday Dec. 11, 2013, at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Iron Mountain, Mich., Marcella, the eldest daughter of their five children was born Jan. 27, 1925 to the late Walter Henry and Florida Poitrus Nicholls. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her step-father, Guy Young; her husband, Andrew Joseph Fedor; her son, Stephen Robert Fedor; and her brother, Alfred Nicholls.
Marcella was a 1943 graduate of Kingsford High School in Kingsford, Mich.. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Chicago to work as a supervisor for Illinois Bell Telephone Company until her marriage to Andrew in 1949.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in LaGrange, Ill., and was involved in the Altar Flower Arrangements, member of the Women's Book Club, worked as the school librarian and was a Girl Scout Leader. While living in LaGrange she was a member of the LaGrange Rose Garden Society, the Village Field Club. After coming to Hendersonville, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Women's guild, Hendersonville Country Club as well as an active member of the Henderson County Diabetes Coalition.
She is survived by son, Andrew John Fedor of Hendersonville; her daughters, Patricia Ann Sortwell and her husband, Christopher of Texas, Pamela Jo Ann Fedor of Hendersonville; two grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Sortwell and Michael T. Sortwell both of Texas; her brothers, Robert S. Nicholls and his wife, "Dolly", Walter J. Nicholls and his wife, Vivian of California; her sisters, Glada A. Longpre and her husband, Merrill of Colorado, JoAnne M. Conery of Wisconsin; her sister-in-law, Carol Nicholls of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law and friend. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her. She and her husband Andrew enhanced the lives of many families when they resided in LaGrange, IL as well as in Hendersonville.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Schratz celebrating. Entombment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.

ETOWAH — Mr. James Ray Extine "Penland", 57, of Etowah has died.

James C. "Red" Peace, 91, of Hendersonville went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, Dec.14, 2013.
He was a native of Henderson County and a son of the late Luther and Ida Capps Peace. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lorie"Marie" Kirkpatrick Peace; great-nephews, Eric and Matthew Mahaffey; three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Peace served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was employed by and retired from Kimberly Clark. He was a member of Hoopers Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his three nieces and caregivers, Diane Mahaffey and husband Donnie, and their children, Michael Mahaffey and wife Jessica, Lyndsay and Elysabeth Mahaffey, Debbie Garren and husband David, and son Chandler Garren, Patricia Brown and husband Steven; and many more nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of Lewis and Nola Franklin, Hoopers Creek Rd, Fletcher.

Jack Thomas Crisp, 73, of Mills River went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, following a brief illness.
Jack was born in Henderson County on April 1, 1940, to the late Virgil Brisco and Opal Case Crisp. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Holcomb and Debbie Biggs.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Henderson County, making his home for 51 years in the Mills River community. He was retired from Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) of Fletcher, where he worked for 21 years as an over the road driver. He drove more than two million miles, accident free.
Jack was an active member of Mills River United Methodist Church and a Mills River Community Development board member. He worked countless hours in refurbishing the Mills River Community Building. He loved to work in the garden and on his lawn. His pride and joy were his six grandchildren, and he supported them in their various activities and pursuits. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. To know him, was to love him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Myra Barnett Crisp; three children, Pete Crisp of Fenton, Mich., Kathy Clark and her husband, Tim of Asheville, and Deron Crisp and his wife, Vickie of Mills River; six grandchildren Kyle Crisp, Logan Crisp, Rebecca Clark, Bailey Clark, Brittany Crisp and Cameron Crisp; two siblings, Donna Dycus and Rick Crisp of Hendersonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of his life is planned for noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Mills River United Methodist Church with the Reverends Ashley Crowder Stanley, Paige Ann Miller, and Paul B Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

David Carter Arledge, 62, of Hendersonville entered into the open arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ on Dec. 10, 2013, surrounded by his family.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hendersonville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville.
Arledge was a native of Shelby, born Aug. 9, 1951 and attended Shelby City Schools. He attended Brevard College, earned an Undergraduate Masters at Appalachian State University, earned a Masters of Divinity from Emory University-Candler School of Theology.
David worked with Henderson County Schools, AB Tech and served the last 5 years as a Methodist minister at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, Charlotte.
Mr. Arledge was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. and Wanda Arledge of Shelby;
grandparents Fred and Louise Arledge of Saluda; and nephew, Eric Paul Arledge of Georgia.
Mr. Arledge is survived by wife, Faye Arledge; sons, Isaac and wife Lauren Arledge and Nathan Arledge; grandchildren Samantha, Corinne, Alyssa, and baby boy Arledge to be; brother, Harold Arledge Jr. and wife Sherry of Brunswick Ga.; sister, Susan Arledge Bridges and husband Frank of Weddington; nephews Aaron Arledge and wife Angela of Monroe Ga., Zack Bridges and wife Jennifer of Charlotte; and niece Katherine Bridges Maness and husband Nathan of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Paula and Curtis Fagan of Denton, Barbara and Charles Haid of Denton; nephew, Chris and Denise Gallimore, and niece, Della and Matt Swider.

ETOWAH — Mrs. Ada Dalton Rudisail, 90, of Etowah passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Elizabeth House after a short illness.
Mrs. Rudisail was the daughter of the late Eli Jerome Dalton and Harriet Allison Dalton. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Jack" Rudisail, and 13 brothers and sisters.
Ada retired from Olin in the early 1980s after a lifetime of working there. She was always a worker whether it was at Olin, in her garden or her flower beds.
Mrs. Rudisail is survived by her sister, Opal Parkinson; her daughter, Phyllis FitzSimons and her husband, Dunkin; son, Jack Rudisail; grandchildren, Allison Finlay and her husband, Kevin, Patrick FitzSimons and his wife, Sarah; great-granddaughter, Clara Finlay; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Bridge at Lake Pointe Landing for their wonderful care during the last two and a half years of her life, and to the caring staff of Four Seasons Elizabeth House for their support of us all during her last days and the "lunch bunch" for their love and companionship.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Edward Wolff, 90, of North Charleston, S.C., formerly of Dana, N.C., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Dana United Methodist Church.
A native of Clifton, N.J., Mr. Wolff was the son of Charles and Francis Hathaway Wolff. Mr. Wolff was a veteran of the United States Air Corp in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and served as an aircraft mechanic on several atolls including Okinawa. Mr. Wolff was employed as a machinist for the Curtis Wright Corp for over twenty- five years.
Mr. Wolff was a member of Dana United Methodist Church and assisted with church maintenance. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, wood working and watching baseball. Mr. Wolff also volunteered at Holmes State Forest during his retirement.
Mr. Wolff was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Winifred Wolff and four brothers, Charles, Russell, Howard, and George, and a stepson, Daniel J. Sabel.
Mr. Wolff is survived by his son, Thomas E. Wolff, daughter-in-law, Lillian Genander, nieces, Cindy Wolff, Barbara Garth, Jean Hebrank, and Alice Lull, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Myrtle Livingston, 93, of Fletcher died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the Elizabeth House after a long period of declining health.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Lula Drake Glaspy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Livingston; two sons, Guy Livingston and wife, Clara, Weldon Livingston and wife, Chevie; two sisters, Florence Howell, Maude Soles; four brothers, Floyd, Mack, Bobby, and Walter Glaspy.
She retired from Cranston Print Works after working for many years as a fabric inspector and also assisted with operating a family farm. She was a devout Christian, a loving grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt; she was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church.
She is survived by four grandsons, Rick Livingston and his wife, Brenda of Mills River, Gary Livingston and his wife, Pam of Mills River, Marty Livingston and his wife, Brandi of Fletcher, Doug Livingston of Hendersonville; great-grandchildren, Jason Livingston and his wife, Kelda, Andrew, Lynsey, Madison, and Micah Livingston; several nieces and nephews, along with many friends.
The family would especially like to thank very special friends, Margaret Reed, Vickie and Francis Wilder, and Gary and Gale Wilkie for all of their assistance and care.

James "JD" Donalson Pearce, 93, of Hendersonville quietly passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Elizabeth House.
He was born in Atlanta on Dec. 4, 1920, to the late Henry and Lorna Pearce. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; and his son Bruce Pearce.
Jim's early years were typical, Boy Scouts, athletics and work. His drive for education led him to Georgia Tech where he was enrolled in the School of Engineering. When World War II broke out, Jim volunteered for the "Silent Service" submarines. With his engineering background, "JD" was assigned to the USS Sea Cat, a fleet submarine based in Pearl Harbor as the Engineering Officer. He completed three combat cruises to the Far East. Following the war, Jim returned to Georgia Tech and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
Prior to his retirement, Jim was a quick learner and with his engaging personality he was successful in numerous positions which included the manufacturing industry, oil distribution, as well as a stock broker and constructing custom homes.
Jim led a full life; he enjoyed his family, friends, picnics, lake trips and Angel flights with his son, Jimmy. He enjoyed playing countless rounds of golf with his wife, Jean. He was instrumental in the formation of Boy Scout Troop 616. He was an active Rotarian for more than 40 years in the Hendersonville Club. He had a wonderful sense of humor and had an endless repertoire of jokes. He wrote many poems about life, family, pets and events. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Carson and her husband, Charles of Simpsonville, S.C.; his two sons, Bill Pearce and his wife, Jody of Hendersonville, Jimmy Pearce and his wife, Gail of Hendersonville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel.
The family would like to thank the great staff at Pine Park and Four Seasons Hospice for the care they gave Jim during his last few months.

Thomas "Ed" Johnson III, 74, of Hendersonville passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at his home.
Ed was born Feb. 10, 1939 in Winston-Salem to Thomas Edward Johnson Jr. and Elizabeth Snyder Johnson, who preceded him in death.
A lifelong Moravian, he was a member of Trinity Moravian church in Winston-Salem.
Ed was an excellent piano player, who entertained all with his ability to play by ear and who knew endless amounts of songs by heart. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather and was loved by all.
Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine Johnson; a son Charles Edward Johnson of Winston-Salem; and a daughter Susan Johnson Toole and her husband Greg of Asheville; one granddaughter Laney Toole; his two brothers Phil Johnson of Winston-Salem and Bob Johnson of Statesville; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held at Calvary Churchyard. A memorial service will be held in the Clubhouse at Heritage Hills at a later date.

Kenneth Barton Hysong, 97, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1916, son of the late Charles Edward and Gladys McGowen Hysong. He was preceded in death by his brother, William, and one son, Chuck Hysong, as well as his beloved wife, Sarah Estelle Turner Hysong.
Ken was a leader, excelling academically as well on the football field. Cdr. Hysong graduated from high school in Los Angeles, Calif. After a year of military prep school he received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a three year starting tackle on the Navy football team, and graduated with the Class of 1939.
Cdr. Hysong was in the South Pacific when World War II began. He spent the entire war in the S. Pacific on various Naval vessels including the USS Nashville that served as the Flagship for General McArthur.
After retiring from the Navy in 1960, Ken and Estelle relocated to Hendersonville where her parents had retired previously. Ken began a second career as a math teacher at HHS and EHHS. He had a profound influence on many of his students. In retirement, Ken enjoyed serving in his church and IAM, as well as playing golf, gardening and tutoring math students.
He is survived by two sons, Jim Hysong (Page) of Hendersonville, John Hysong (Lynda) of Brevard; two daughters, Joan Hysong of Hendersonville, Susan Hysong Gilks (Ron) of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Jed Hysong, Ken Hysong (Sarah), Daniel Hysong (Heidi), Julie Hysong Lonon (Josh), Lauren Hysong Beane (Cody), Robert Hysong, Chris Erickson, Ben Hysong, Sarah Hysong, Clacy Hysong, Sarah Gilks, and Jessi Gilks; twelve great-grandchildren, Miller and Helena Hysong, Philip,Blake and Joshua Hysong, Alex and Charlie Lonon, Zach Hysong, Alex Hysong, Dillinger Fletcher, Tenleigh Van Boxtel, and Stella Erickson; and two nieces, Barbara Hysong Dohrmann and Pat Hysong Maisch.
A memorial service with be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel with the Reverend William Carpenter officiating. A reception will be held in the South Room of the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Reatha Davis Lyda, 56, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Daniel "Dan" Sr. and Ibera Whitlock Davis and a son, Jacob Lyda.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Duane Lyda; two sisters, Debra Harrison (Billy) and Joan White (Edward) both of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Frank Daniel "Danny" Davis Jr. of Greenville, S.C., and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 4259 Chimney Rock Road (traveling from Hendersonville on 64 East it will be on the left between Old Orchard Road and Hog Rock Road). A graveside service will follow at St. Paul's Community Cemetery in Edneyville.

Paul M. Kintner, Sr., PhD, 94, of Carolina Village in Hendersonville died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Carolina Village Medical Center.
Dr. Kintner graduated from the University of Kentucky in electrical engineering and was briefly employed by General Electric Company until World War II began. He joined the Army and proudly served for 4½ years. After his military service, he attended the University of Illinois, attaining an advanced degree in electrical engineering.
He then joined a project at the University constructing one of the first of the modern electronic computers; he assisted in its design and was in charge of its technical operation after being delivered to the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Eventually joining the Cutler-Hammer Corporation, later a division of Eaton Corporation, Dr. Kintner spent most of his career specializing in the application of computer techniques to industrial control. He holds a number of patents in the field and wrote one of the early books on the subject.
Dr. Kintner was an avid amateur musician, playing the viola in numerous chamber groups as well as community orchestras, including the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra for more than 10 years. He was a member of the Unitarian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vivian Marie Kintner of Hendersonville; two sons, Douglas Kintner of Sun Prairie, WI and Christopher Kintner of Del Mar, CA; one daughter, Victoria Griswold of Indianapolis, IN; three brothers, James Kintner, George Kintner and Robert Kintner; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul M. Kintner, Jr. and three sisters, Dorothy Kintner, Margaret Anderson and Frances Boozer
A memorial concert will be performed in Dr. Kintner's honor by the Vega String Quartet (quartet in residence at Emory University) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Village Hall, 600 Carolina Village Rd., Hendersonville. The event is free and open to the public.

Barbara Houck McFadden, 80, of Hendersonville passed away on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013.
Mrs. McFadden was born and grew up in Dearborn, Mich., the daughter of Jesse Houck and Linda Martin Houck. She worked for several years in the automotive industry as an Executive Secretary for the Ford Motor Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Doug, and her beloved husband of 50 years, Walt.
Mrs. McFadden moved to Hendersonville in 1978 from Kalamazoo, Mich., when her husband was transferred here to manage a plant start-up for Eaton Corporation. After moving to Hendersonville, she worked for many years for the law firm of James H. Toms, and enjoyed her fellow employees and meeting so many new people. She was especially fond of her employer, Jim Toms and his family, from whom she learned so much about her new location and the city of Hendersonville.
She was a member of First Congregational Church and Pardee Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed golf and traveling; they were especially fond of Italy.
Mrs. McFadden is survived by two children, Sue McFadden Fetherston of Atlanta, Ga., and Michael McFadden of Hendersonville, and three grandchildren, Dylan and Marie Fetherston and Parker McFadden. She is also survived by two nephews, John Bailey and his wife, Sharon, and Jeff Bailey, and their families, and a very special niece, Judy Bailey and her husband, Michael Lund, and their family. Her nephew, Jim, the oldest of the four Bailey children, passed away in February 2011. He is survived by his wife, Chris, and their family.
She requested that no service be held and that family, friends, and acquaintances remember her for the loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend that she was. In keeping with her wishes, the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Thos. Shepherd & Sons Funeral Directors.

DeLynn "Dee" S. Blackwell, 51, of Hendersonville passed away, Friday, Nov. 29, 2013.
She was a native of Henderson County and the daughter of Mary Murray and the late Sherman Daves.
Survivors include her mother Mary Murray; daughter, Miranda Williams and husband David; son, Daniel Blackwell and wife Katisha; grandchildren, Noah and Shelby Williams, Mason and Kaylee Blackwell; sisters, Constance Fisher, Melody Cobb and Angela Henderson; brothers, Randall and Robert Daves; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating.

Eugene "Gene" McCormic, 84, of Hendersonville passed away suddenly on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Pardee Hospital.
Born in Nebraska City, Neb., he was the son of the late William and Lillian McCormic. He was also preceded in death by his two previous wives, Dorothy McCormic and Georgia McCormic, and by his brother, John McCormic.
Mr. McCormic retired from the US Army in 1969, having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a computer specialist for Foster Grant, retiring in 1980. He had lived in Hendersonville for 15 years. Gene served his community as a Gideon, a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and as a Freemason. He received several awards for community service in both Florida and North Carolina. He enjoyed reading, sharpshooting and traveling.
Mr. McCormic is survived by his wife, Barbara McCormic of Hendersonville; his son, Michael McCormic and wife, Karen, of Massachusetts; four daughters, Marcella Smith and husband, William, of New York, Rebecca Connolly of North Carolina, Christine McCormic of New York, and Jennifer Dwyer and husband, Kenneth, of Colorado; four stepchildren, Diane Dewar of Nevada, James Dewar and wife, Kim, of Maryland, Holly Dewar of Nevada, and Michael Dewar of New Hampshire; eleven grandchildren; and bunches of great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Pastor Roy Perry will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 – 4 p.m. prior to the service at Shuler Funeral Home.

Noeleen "Eithne" Bridget Muir, 72, of Hendersonville passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.
She was a native of Dublin, Ireland and a resident of Henderson County for the last 35 years.
Mrs. Muir was a daughter of the late Martin and Kathleen Kavanagh and was also preceded in death by her brother, Seán Kavanagh.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was very proud of becoming a U.S. citizen in 2010 and of exercising her right to vote.
Eithne is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Francis Muir; son, Russell Muir and his wife Priscilla of Arden; daughter, Carolyn Siepert and her husband Chris of Sugar Hill, Ga.; grandchildren, Abigail Muir, Sean Siepert and Ryan Siepert; sisters, Nuala Quinn and Maureen Colvin; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
